    Front Left Negative Camber

Vehicle: 1998 Land Rover Discovery 1 (300Tdi) with a 2" lift 2 years old and 245/75/16s on standard rims also 2 years old or 20K

Problem: Front left tyre is suffering server negative camber and catching on the radius arm.

History: The CV, Bearings and seals were all replaced and then this issue became apart the first time i drove it afterwards.

Other Notes: My swivel seal is leaking, and there is play in the vertical axis of the wheel. No sounds of bearing damage.

Question: What is the possible or most likely cause of this problem and how is it best rectafied.

    Kind Regards, James.

What makes you think it has sevear negative camber?

and there is play in the vertical axis of the wheel.
This will not help your camber/toe/wheel alignment.

I'm thinking rectify movement and wheel alignment.

Almost certainly free play on the swivel bearings. The bearings/bushes may or may not be OK - may be simply a matter of removing shims, and reflects incorrect assembly. Or it could be the top (or bottom) swivel pin is loose due to the bolts not being properly secured, which if it has been that way for any length of time may have damaged the swivel housing. Could be a failed bearing or top bush, depending which it has, but this is unlikely if it is lubricated, which it probably is since it is leaking.

Slight possibility of the swivel ball being loose on the axle housing, possibly a broken bolt through being overtightened.

The server negative camber is apparent as it can be seen by simply looking at the wheel. I will be taking the car into my local land rover mechanic on monday and will see what they have to say about it.

I think I have a similar problem with the same side. the car pulls to the right when driving forward and turns left when reversing. I have checked and doubled check every suspension & steering part to date and can't see anything loose or bent.
Today I was looking at the wheels from head on and thought I'd get out a spirit level and check to see if the wheels were vertical. I got the level up against the front guard and measured the distance from the top of the rim to the level and then the bottom distance. the drivers side wheel was spot on same distance top and bottom. the passenger side, well the difference between is about 3mm at the top further out. so negative camber. this is with the car on the ground. will jack it up and see if there is any play in the bearings. checked this on the drivers side but can't remember if I did it to the pax side???

If it is not very loose wheel bearings and can't be fixed by proper adjustment, then it will be as as John (JDNSW) says, whoever replaced the CV and swivel seals has not adjusted the swivel preload, i.e. taking out or adding shims under the top pin housing, if you have no idea of what I'm talking about take it to a LR dealer or 4wd specialist, Regards Frank.
