    disco ticking noise

hey guys i have a 1995 3.9 v8 disco auto and i was 4wding on the weekend and on the way home the car was making a ticking noise, it sounds like its coming from the otherside of the firewall in the drivers side footwell, i origionally thought it may have been a hole in the exhaust but then i realised it only happens when in drive or reverse when the wheels are moving or stationary but not in neutral or park, the noise gets louder as the revs increase, any ideas as to what the problem could be would be really appreciated,
    regards mitch

It could still be a leaking flange gasket in its early days of letting go. Under load it gets worse as the pressure builds up. Or even 1 part of the exhaust maniflod gasket leaking. I'd check all mating areas of the exhaust for the tell tale black soot before i dug too deep.

a loose plug not sealing or the exhaust manifold gasket blown, usually associated with a stain on the one that's leaking
