Thread: Disco fuel pump loss of power??

There is a harness plug above the muffler which can fail, also check the pump assembly plug for blackening. I think the fuel pump relay is behind the rh kick panel. Put your finger on each relay in turn as you cycle the key on. One will be on for a couple of seconds after key-on then click off.

Thanks, i checked the connections they all look fine, i couldnt find any relays on the right hand side, i did find 4 behind the laft hand kick panel.

In my 96 D1 there behind the R/H kick panel below the ECU.

Also check the inertia switch behind the windscreen water bottle. Press down on top to reset.

found the relay, is it the one with the blue base?

so the new relay didnt work... anyone got any ideas before i have it towed 180km to the mechanic?

Diagnosis not guessing.

1. Use a multi meter on resistance to find the break between the relay and the pump and then bypass it.

2. Use a multi meter to determine if 12V is at the relay input, at the relay output when cranking, at the harness plugs etc. Fix the fault wherever it appears.

3. Hotwire the pump from the ignition via a switch and fuse, from the key switch wiring under the dash.

4. If the pump is stuffed, ie there is power to the pump on cranking and the hotwiring doesn't work, replace the pump.

I have rang numerous land rover specialists and no one can tell me exactly which relay it is, they all say its the metal one, ok i havent got a metal one, i put my finger on the relays while cranking and theres numerous relays that kick.
I thought of hot wiring thefuel pump to the ignition, but wont this confuse the ECU? if not i will do that to get the car back to sydney, its currently 3hrs south.

Diagnostic: fuel pump relay has the same colour wire from its base as at the fuel pump, white/purple stripe I believe. RAVE for 1995 shows the relay to be in the top row, RH kick panel, near the middle/rearwards position. There is also the inertia switch which cuts the fuel pump. I don't have info for the 1994 if it has one, under the bonnet on the firewall. Again, look for white & purple wires.
