    leaking water

Merry Xmas all.My 94 update is leaking onto the front drivers side floor.I have already removed the side windscreen mouldings and sealed with sikaflex and can't see any water from the bottom of the screen coming in.The wiring under the console has felt a little wet in spots and also the side kick panel but maybe just from the wiring dripping.Has anyone discovered any spots that can be a problem.I have checked the aircon lines and they are fine and removed and sikaflexed the wiper motor.it leaks after washing or rain.Any help would be great as the floor is getting a bit rusty in spots from this blasted leak.
    Cheers Shane

I had the same problem several years ago and it took me ages to find the cause. Below the lower corner of the windshield there is an area where three metal panels meet, with British tolerances and perfection. The resulting gap is plugged with filler and commonly painted in the vehicle's colour, hence not that easy to see. This blob of filler deteriorates and develops fine cracks over time that allow water ingress. The remedy of choice for this problem is removal of the old filler material and replacing it with new stuff. Whilst you are at it, check for corrosion in the relevant area as this should be addressed simultaneously in order to avoid additional trouble further down the road.
There is also a Water Ingress Manual for download in the "Files" section. If you cannot find it, PM me for a copy.
    Cheers

Thanks heaps Jojo,I will have a look at that.Do you have to remove anything to get access in to it to fix the area ? I do have the water ingress bulletin but can't remember seeing anything for that trouble spot. Thanks again.

Glad to be of help, mate!
Yep, it is not easy to discover the leak, let alone getting at it. From outside it is almost impossible, I accessed it from underneath. Will be even more hassle for you as your truck will be a RHD. I was able to trace it when I had someone flushing the area outside with a garden hose and copious amounts of water. After a while I could see drops appear and then it was only to follow their paths to the relevant area (you may be able to trace them if they have left some rusty residues on their way down to the foot well). IIRC I took off the wing as well.
You should dismantle as much of your dashboard as possible and go straight into the upper right hand corner of the firewall. And, no, for reasons completely beyond me this leak is not featured in the bulletin! But plenty of others are that have to be checked and excluded as well.
Do you have front mud flaps? If so, check that the bolts holding it don't have corroded and worn out the holes, otherwise you will get water ingress into the foot well this way, too. If you don't have those mud flaps you should check the condition of the plugs in the pre-drilled holes for the mud flap fittings (yes, they are there) as these plastic plugs deteriorate over time and become brittle, sucking in moisture by capillary action. The amount of water in the footwell insulation foam can be extreme!
Not wanting to put you off, Shane, but knowing about a particular problem is always the first step of fixing it.
    Cheers

Hey dullbird,I agree there are a lot of posts about leaking Disco's but from this thread I have found out about the overlapping metal spot near the corner of the windscreen which I have not seen mentioned in another thread.

Yes I agree it is a new one

    Just bare in mind
when a subject is covered quite a lot you may not get everyone answering because they get fed up doing it, that;s nothing against yourself or anyone else asking the questions..and it doesn't hurt to ask as like you have found you got something that has never been mentioned

A good example is tyre threads a lot of the knowledgeable people here have gone over and over stuff so much they stop answering after a while.

So you can and will find some really good info that may not be covered in a recent thread by trying a few different search key words.

I hope this one you have fixes your problem, I have not lifted my carpets in front because I dread what I might find under there.. I have been fairly lucky with leaks though and cant say I have found anything in mine..that might be a bad thing though coz its probably secretly leaking somewhere else and one day my seats or some **** will probably fall out the floor or something hahahahaha

I'm going to put thte hose on mine this arvo and see if I have fixed the leaks - they are the bane of my life and spoil what is otherwise a vehicle that I love.

Given how cold it gets in england you would think the poms would make one that doesn't leak
