    NEW CAR!!

Just got myself a D1, and im excited like a little kid.
There's heaps of jobs i gotta do to it, should be a fun learning experience for me.

1997 D1, charleston green, 275k, auto, 300TDi, dual batteries, should be a great camping / touring car. loooking forward to adding a few k's to the clock.

btw, total 4WD noob, my first 4WD.

Congratulations, mate! I once had one that looked similar to yours. Have fun!
    Cheers
    Johannes

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.

congrats on the getting a disco,
word of warning if you haven't read various thread on here

being a diesel get an engine monitor ASAP for the temp for the head (note temp gauge is a wonder gauge, the needle doesn't move from mid way until it is too late and it s cooked)
has the head been done lately? common for them to need head gasket at around the 250k i bought mine at 258k and the head gasket went straight away if it had not already gone.
not trying to put a dampener on your purchase but with a bit of fore thought and knowledge from this forum you WILL enjoy the ownership a Land Rover i certainly do
    welcome

thanks bigcarle, i don't think it's had head work done. taking it to franzone on monday for a service and checkup.

will look into an engine monitor. cheers.
second inspection for licensing tomorrow, tacked the headliner, cleaned the oil off the bottom, fixed the rear window today.
i bought it unlicensed for cheap, hoping it will be a bit of a project car, gradually build it up into a handy(er) touring machine.

the disco has some idiosyncrasies you need to know about so the more informed you are the better.
and these idiosyncrasies only make it a car with character and not a mass produced anonymous lump of plastic
timing belt for the 300TDi are changed at 80k if unknown do it NOW
expansion bottle should be a black colour and there should be brass plugs in the top of the radiator and the thermostat housing,
all bearing in mind that it is not in the list that "gavinwibrow" has made up

I still have the factory black one but I thought it was these that were prone to cracking and to change it to the opaque one. I also have the brass plugs
    Cheers
