Big tyres, how big can we go?

Hey guys. I've done search and didn't come up with much helpful, I'm looking at putting 33" bighorns on my d1. In my search some suggest the need for 30mm spacers, some don't. Some speak of steering adjustments. Others don't. Can anyone give me the nesseserry info I'll need to make these work? I'll have +2" springs under the disco.

Lifts dont give clearance, just move the static point..

So if it hits without a lift - it will hit with a lift....

You'll need flares - cut the guards....

And then stronger axles, diff centres, new CW&P, stronger driveshafts....

    Each change will cost further....

I have 275/75/16's under mine old 2" lift, and havent cut the guards but you sure as hell can see where the tyres have hit them.

standard rims with the lock points further out so the tyres dont hit the chassis - it now has the turning circle of the titanic

I have diff locks and standard axles, cv's etc but I dont go mental with it and it hasn't let me down (have smoked all 4 wheels on bituman drifting sideways so they can handle a bit of mental) but not the same as locked up climbing rocks - snap, oops

My thoughts on it if you are going to do it, as this is what I am going to do as funding permits, 2" springs new softer ones, 2' body lift, flares & camel cut, ashcroft axles, cv's and 4.11 CW&P, caster corrected radius and trailing arms- not sure which brand yet.

off set rims will probably flip the centers of the standard steel rims or buy them already done and have 2 sets, standard with road bias tyres and flipped with mud boggers or something just as insane for fun.

then you will need to look at articulation which is another story entirely I'm aming for 16" travel which will mean custom shock hangers, looking closely at the Xeng suspension set up and like it. Depending on total cost may need to have less travel

Hi, went to Ant at Coffs Harbour 4x4, asked the same question for my D1. Standard suspension.

Answer is no problem with 30x9.5x15.

Go and have a look at M/thompson 30's, it changed my mind on all the hassels associated with going any bigger.

that size is not much larger than stock, what mrwoody is wanting to fit is going to require a lift, cut guards and flares, steering stops wound out and if he wants any kind of performance 4.11 gearing .
Standard rims with their negatibe offset will make the tyres hit the inner guards , offset rims will fix that but then will push the tyres out of the guards so flares will be needed.

hi all just put 15x7 king rims on my d1 and 31x11.5 hankooks have to do camel cut and fit some flares but they only just hang out of the guards by 1/2 an inch thought this was the best compromise between 30'' and 33'' for gear ratios etc.

I am keen to do this too. Was wondering what rims you will use as d1 rims are 16's.

Why not stay with the 16" rims ? , buying another set of rims just to go to an imperial size tyre is pointless unless you going way bigger like 33/35" where you need offset and wider rims. 265/70/16 is nearly the same as 31" and 245/70 is close enough to 30" .

I run 265/75 on the stock rims with no issues. I have a 2" lift, did a small camel cut and adjusted my steering stops. The guards are filled nicely.

Well after much difference in opinions. I went against the grain. I've got 235/85/16 on my alloys, can't fit anything bigger (as its not lifted yet) but full lock is no issue and they tuck into wheel arches.

I'll get a pic of them on tomorrow. Should give a little more clearance to the diff housings.
