I was running Detroit Rear and Truetrac front in my D1 V8 Auto and found them great. Performed well both on and off road. You did not even know they were there.
As for the ratios, if 31" is as far as your going I would save your money and stick with the standard ratio. I found mine perform ok with this size even though it did take a bit of the edge off it on road. Low range was no problem.
Be warned though, the bug may hit and have the urge to go bigger as it did with me. I found it was drivable with 33" really had to hold out the gear changes longer and used a lot more fuel. Towing was rubbish as well. Still performed well in low range.
If your sure you wont go to much bigger don't change them but if not sure it's easier to do it with the Trruetrac install.
