I had the middle muffler cut out and replaced with a straight bit of pipe. $45. The sound is almost unchanged.

I was told that the middle one is the restrictive one and removing it was almost as good as getting a new system. I did have it dyno'd before and after but we were playing with the fuel pump as well. We thought we gained a little bit by being able to up the fuel a bit more before it got smokey.

I think it was $45 bucks well spent... but nowhere as good as the money I spent with a four wheel dyno and clever guy at Diesel Care. At 1800 rpm he almost doubled the power output. It was double a very small number (16Kw! to almost 30Kw) but heaps better to drive. Note: we did not change the peak output by much at all, just boosted the bottom to mid range. Much better round town.

Who does diesel tuning in Adelaide? Thinking of doing the exhaust, water-air cooler, couple of psi of boost and maybe water injection at once then getting the pump adjusted to suit.

Thanx PM80 good info to help back up my idea that 2.5 is enough I think

Not sure of anyone in Adelaide yet I want someone that has tuned land rovers too!! I was going to ring rover wreak and see if they had any ideas! If you find one before I do post it here and I'll do the same

    Have fun,

Nah mates old man bought it like it to turn into a ute. They are land rover nuts! He changed his mind, I wanted an older 4x4 for camping instead what I have now so I bought it off of him

have the pump tweeked, there are instruction floating around here somewhere

    install an EGT guage

i have had a noteable increase in drivability throught the combination of changes

re: 3in systems, i think its an overkill as the 300tdi only a tiny engine compare to the 4L engines running around with 3in mandrel systems fitted.....stick with a 2.5 system i reckon
Apart from another gauge, why monitor the exhaust gas temp when removing a muffler?

Probably because of the pump tweak, not the muffler.

forgive my ignorance but is increasing boost as simple as fitting a turbo smart manual boost controller and gauge?

its easier than that, just adjust the wastegate actuator..

of course then you need the fuel to be available to make the boost.
