    Leak free Disco

I finally have a leak free disco. I no that usually means the fluid levels are empty but all levels are full and correct. Its only taken me 2 years of trying but was well worth the effort. I have relpaced most of the hoses and pipes. Power steering making the most noticable difference. The transfer box was the most costly but it was making increasingly louder noises so was stuffed anyway. How long she will hold her fluids is anyone guess, (we all tend to lose control the older we get) but so far its been 5 days and not a drop to see

    Get in quick!

Mate, my advice would be to go and see your local pink slip inspection station right now whilst there are still no leaks, ask the guy if he'll give you roadworthy certs for the next ten years. I have seen these Landrovers leak new, on the showroom floor, my mate bought a brand new Deefer 130 ute and it immediately leaked oil on his garage floor, the dealer was not successful in stopping all the leakage within the warranty time. Very rarely will you see any Pommy cars with no leaks. If they are not leaking then there is a strong possibility there is no oil in them. But that being said, I have had 3 Jags, 2 Triumphs, a Morris, first car was an Austin A40 and a few Landrovers in my time, still have the old Disco, and loved the lot of them, warts (oil leaks) and all, I think they are addictive.

lol You guys are all so pessimistic! I reckon the only leak I have is oil cooler lines which I'll be replacing shortly. Past that I reckon my D1 is pretty clean and I've never had to top up any oil level.

Also I don't clean it, so maybe the oil is all hidden in dirt.

Thats my method for leak prevention, just let the mud congeal with the oil and it will seal itself .

Yep definitely - at the solid to flexible joins it very slowly leaks and drips. Mine drips down onto the diff and prop shaft so it gets flicked everywhere. I picked up a new pair of lines for $120, just haven't installed them yet.

Im not betting anything, if it last more than a month I will be happy never had a leak free disco before so enjoying the moment. It wont last for ever that I know It seems to be that owning anything landrover means you are just waitng for the next thing to fail but they have heaps of character that all the jap 4x4's seem to miss. She's a good old work horse that is now part of the family and am enjoying it all ( good and bad )

    Oil cooler lines

    Hello,

I have tried to seal up the gearbox, the transfer case, sump etc etc.
I have noticed the same thing. My lines are a main source of leaks. But I assumed its the old weeping rubber scenario but sounds like its the rubber to solid joints?

I wonder if newer after market lines have solved the problem.

Not much point in buying new lines if they are going to do the same thing.

Has anyone who tried new lines noticed if they fix the problem ?
