Throw away the head. They are impossible to repair/ weld properly. NEW heads ex UK are very good value.

So that happened quickly, form the vinegar chips to a thousand bucks and shipping from the UK. Wholly..... not what I wanted to hear....

I wasn't saying it IS the problem, it is just that is one place/ way coolant can get into the engine, and is easy to check.

the few times I've seen it personally its been on a head thats been over heated, warped, skimmed (not straightened) and then put back on because the heads warped when it heats up it cracks apart

There's a bloke on eBay (brisbane) selling complete heads for $700+, Regardes frank.

So I finally took the inlet manifold off and I guess there are no traces of water or coolant there, unless I can't see it.

In that case do you have any other ideas as to why the vinegar smell?

It drives fine, but my concern is growing that I will damage something if I continue to drive the rig in this condition.

Is there something in the diesel fuel in Indonesia that would make this? Do other diesel vehicles give off this odour?
Another test you could try to see if it is coolant or not is to completely drain the coolant - drain the radiator and block - and replace it all with water, see if it still smells. As water won't smell if burned, if the smell goes away it does suggest that coolant is getting in to the combustion somewhere.

Indonesion sold vehicles may also have a cat converter, this will cause some stink if coolant etc goes through it, too.
