    Smile 400k Disco TDi - a problem??

    Hi All

I am looking at a 300TDi in the Toowoomba region, it has 400k on it but seems (over the phone, anyway) to have been reasonably well looked after , with some recent work. How long do the engines generally last given good servicing?

I have 1998 300TDI Disco with 320km on the clock. It has been a great car with only 2 major issues in its life, the power steering pump needed replacing and the head went soft in the middle (65 Brunel). It has developed a recent problem with over heating on a hot day but I am trying to solve this.
I service mine every 5000km (oil and filter), fuel filter and air cleaner every 10000km and new coolant every 12 months.
I expect it to give me another 200 000kms before motor rebuild.

    Regards

so long as the mileage is reflected in the price and you are prepared and knowledgable/brave enough to deal with keeping the car going, if you dont know anything about mechanics this could be expensive, if your keen to learn it could be fun. Remember it will be harder to sell with a higher mileage as people will be asking the same question your asking here? Ironically if it was a defender the mileage doesnt seem to effect the price!

D1's have no resale value as it is, if everything else checks out and as mentioned price is fair then go for it.

The car is a manual, new roof and bonnet paint, new clutch, timing belt and recon gearbox, near new tyres, bullbar/towbar, spotlights and working a/c.
Expansion bottle and thermostat done too. A little work inside - headlining, steering wheel, stereo - and comes with RWC and 6 months reg, private sale, asking 6k ish. Good value?

Oh, forgot the really important one. I want to tow a low caravan approx 1100kg. Should i really go for a TD5, or will the 300Tdi (manual) be up to the task?
