Valves need to be recessed if you machine the head, a good machinist will do this as part of the job, Regards Frank.

So guys and gals what's the real difference between an AMC, Turner and Turner Performance head? Arent they all just made in Spain? Is there any difference in materials or workmanship between AMC and Turners? How much does it cost for an AMC in Australia? vs Turner UK?

Oh and if replacing a head is it advisable to always get a "complete" head vs get the bare bones of a head and reuse valves from old etc?

turners use the AMC head, a turners performance head is an AMC head that turner gas flow behind the valves

Sorry, what does "gas flow" actually mean?

Gas flowed works by flowing more air at or just above max torque(1800-2200rpm). Replaced mine 12 months ago, noticed it revs quicker and smoother above 1800rpm. Not sure if there is more power, fuel economy is the same as standard head. Only thing is the diesel rattle is a bit louder.

Luke, Only thing is the diesel rattle is a bit louder.

Perhaps check your pump timing, check your valve clearances and check you injectors.
My rebuild using a Turners performance heads now has 85 hours on it.

It has that well tuned 300tdi tinkle at idle (advanced timing using JC majik lift measurement) but no diesel clatter once the revs lift, it is dead smooth with good bite. Certainly much quieter than any other tdi engine I have had, so I dont think the turners head makes it necessarily clattery...
