    Replacement Engine - what years can I use?

    Hi All,

    Looks like my finances will only allow for a second hand replacement engine to go into my 97 V8i Discovery.

    Just wondering if anyone knows between what years models I can look at for a donor engine?

    Not knowing too much about this myself, I want to make sure I comply with all regulations etc and don't want to have to upgrade/change all the other bits and pieces to get it up and running.

    Given mines a 97, it obvious that a V8 from another 97 would be ideal, but how early/late can I go?

    Cheers,

    Shamat

    Any D1 (and '94 RRC) 3.9 engine with the serpentine belt drive front end, approximately '94-'98, will bolt in complete and be correct for your vehicle.

    A somewhat related subject bee utey, what year was the high compression engine fitted from? Mine is a 98, and has the 9.35:1, but seems to be a rarity.

    Never seen one. A co-respondent from the UK says low comp engines are rare over there. Yours is an imported engine perhaps?

    No it's the original engine, as sold by a Melbourne dealer, was bought as one owner from new by me in 2010.

    It is one Of the last D1s though, an April 98 build.

    A High Compression motor would be ideal.. don't fancy my chances of finding one though.

    What should I expect to pay for replacement engine (not reconditioned)?
    I've seen them between $800-$1000 on eBay. Is this the typical going rate?

    Looks about right. Just make sure you find one that hasn't been overheated. Ideally one you can see running before it gets pulled out.

    Overheated = knackered.

    If I had my conversion done you could have mine, complete with LPG mixer. Unfortunately I've got a fair bit of saving to do before I'm done.
