Thanks, it seemed to be engaging CDL as there was a noticeable difference to "the drive", also as it was harder to engage at first & had to work the stick a bit but I did feel it engage on the stick so to speak.
RE the overheating, I went to the local LR yard here in Hervey Bay (nearest other one that's not new cars only is in Gympie over 200k's away) to get some info on bottle cap & he was in a bit of shock. That's not a LR cap, I don't know what that is, he reckoned (it was yellow) so I bought a new 16psi one. I don't know as yet if there is any difference but one thing I did notice on the short trip there & then back was, the water level in the bottle never changed level when checking whilst hot with yellow cap. Changed caps for trip home & the water level in the bottle actually rose when hot then dropped back down when cold (took caps off with utmost care) with new black one.
So here's hoping that little (LOL) prob might be fixed, touch wood

In my D1 when the CDL is engaged you roll a short distance and a H-shaped indicator lights up on the dash.
Is your CDL/low range lever stiff to move, making it hard to get into position? If so, you may need to take off the cover and spray some light oil in there and move it around a bit to get it moving more easily.

Yeah it does get a "bit" hard at first but after using it a bit it gets loose, when I 1st bought it 3mths ago I tried it & once out of "gear" it was impossible to get back in (thought I was going to break it LOL), CDL or not. I searched & asked on here & was told that it had probably not been used for a while & would need some grease on the bottom of lever, which I did, now some people say I should have used WD40 or some such.

It is possible that the switch that turns on the light on the dash is buggered/sticky. Mine is and I get no light but I my CDL is definitely engaged.

Easy test for it. Engage CDL, lift one wheel making sure you chock the opposite wheel and see if you can turn the lifted wheel. If you can't, CDL is engaged, if you can, CDL is not engaged (or something is broken somewhere between the transfer box and that wheel).

Hopefully that gives you a better idea of what's wrong.

There is a little grassy hill that is really steep on side of boat ramp driveway that I tested it on that really gets the articulation going, no CDL gets up but not without a fair bit of slippage, wheel spin, 2nd attempt & right boot. With CDL engaged it just crawls over 1st time, both times in L1 so to me that means it's working, right???

Probably wouldn't use WD40, well you could use it in the first instance to help loosen it up wipe as much of as you can and let it dry. Then using grease is probably the best option. The other option as was mentioned would be a light oil of some sort. WD40 just isn't going to be a permanent enough solution.

Others will correct me if this is in fact incorrect, but that's how I would go with it.

Cheers for that, I'll let it go for now as it's just the 1st time you engage CDL & if I give the lever a good swish (LOL) around at that time (which you do) then it's fine. Trouble is at the moment I'm lucky if I get out once a month (since I've owned this) where as before I was getting out every fortnight, ah well.

    Unhappy

Newest prob GRRRR, the engine has a loud ticking noise when you 1st start it up that lasts for about 30 sec till it warms up a bit. This does not happen all the time on 1st start-up just most.
Valve's? tappets? timing? lean fuel? I say this because it does seem to be lean at exhaust end i.e. the exhaust end is grey & dry rather than black.
    Thanks

Check your exhaust manifold bolts are all tight and the gaskets are in good condition.

    Question

What a difference a new battery makes, it now starts every time 1st kick (1 to 2 sec max) yay, but have now just noticed something else that's a wee bit strange. Since I bought it it's had an idling prob but only now & then, also the fuel gauge also only worked now & then. The strange thing I've just noticed is that it's one or the other not both at same time .
    Any ideas anyone???
