Question Auto's How Good On Hill Descent?

Hi guys, was just wondering how good stock auto box's are on steep hill descents in the Disco 1's, oh & petrol motor. I've had Explorer auto's before & they were er um poor shall we say LOL all my other 4b's have been manuals.
Using Lancruiser Park's Telecom hill as an example, my ford explorers could get up the rock face side with a bit of boot but it was coming back down the other side that was the scariest, having to use brakes all the way. How would the Disco 1's auto handle going down, better, worse or same.

I dont have a problem with my Disco 300TDi Auto, I've driven down many long steep slopes and only occaisionally have to touch the brakes, I usually stay under 3500rpm, lock in my rear diff and start off idling in low/low, never a worry.
Over the years I have had 2 Ford F100's 4wd, 1 Ford Bronco and 3 Disco's all auto, wouldn't even consider a manual, Regards Frank.

Or try a bit of throttle and brake together. The throttle can keep the torque converter locked up.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    Hi mate,

Took my old Rangie V8 auto over Telecom hill plenty of timrs and low range first was low enough to get down the other side with only a couple of dabs on the brake pedal, land Rover low range is about as low as factory gearing gets, at least as good as the Prado manual V6 I had before I saw the light.

If you prefer auto or its a good price don't let hill decents worry you, the gearing lets you use it
