Thread: Disco 1 Boot System

I used knock together aluminium box section to build the storage system. We have to take the back seats out to get the complete unit in but its a 1 hour job to fully remove and put the seats back so no big deal and most of the time there is just the two of us travelling.

I'm 3/4 of the way finished but my Engel only fits in sideways, about an inch too long, which only leaves small room for drawers

What sort of latches did you use to hold the drawers closed?

This is a project I would like to do at some point and a friend said that with professionaly made units a fair bit of effort goes in to the latch mechanism to ensure the drawers rattle as little as possible while you are driving.

How much did you end up spending? I think I remember seeing the drawer slides for $100 per pair?

mistajoel - does your set up allow the rear (2nd row I mean) seats to remain in place?
I assume the storage bins either side of the boot have been gotten rid of?


steelo - You have a 40l Engel? (I presume). I have the same problem and given the limited amount of space available don't want to put the bugger in sideways. I have heard that it will fit if the handles are removed. Maybe replace with some sort of soft/flexible strap.

Mmmm, it is satisfying doing it yourself, but don't think one Saturday will be enough to get it right

The pro's are definitely worth the money, and i actually had a hard time finding any latches... but the slides i bought ended up having little tabs on the ends that lock the draw in/out. release is just by pushing them down (you can see them poking through the front of the drawer)

The smaller drawer (yes, the drawer within the drawer) was added in mind for my socket set, usually gets packed on the bottom, always needed in a hurry.. and that has no lock on it, just holds itself in because i cut it a little dodgy used one of those vibrating multitools... amazing little thing...

Yes, the 750mm slides cost exactly $100 from fleabay, the handles like $3 from bunnings...

Yep, Vlad, the back seats are still there... can even tilt them forwards also, despite the amount the bottom of the seat back swings backwards first...

Uhh, storage bins? One side had a seat in there when i bought it, just left that there, the other side is just an empty cavity, which is destined to be filled with my 300w pure sine wave inverter and compressor...
