just looking at my post you quoted. seemed a bit confusing. just to make it clear. the $130 is for removal and replacement of the windscreen. without counting damage to the screen just in case. he has pulled the screen out already. still havnt paid a cent. he said pay him when he comes back.

all the repainting and rust treatment i do myself. not him.

other guys quoted me $200 for removal and replacement and the first guy didnt show up even when i took a day off work so i could work on the car and meet him at my place. lucky this other guy could come on the same day. knew his stuff and was friendly.

    Rust

    any rust experts here?

do you guys rekon this needs to be cut right off? the more i grind into it the more it breaks up like this. its a hard place to replace metal at there are two panels. do you think that rust converter is enough here or should i go further?

    thanks,

roof stripped back. alpine windows out. some rust

i managed to finish sanding back the whole roof now and ive rust treated all the bad areas.

gona just steel glue some 0.3mm sheet to the back of the lip on the alpine window and then bog the front end up. dont think its bad enough yet to do a whole cut and weld job.

it looks better now since ive put the rust converter on it.

its now all taped up and prepped for priming. gona wait for the next nice day and start the paint.

you can see where ive bogged up the roof rail holes. i just glued flat steel plate over them as well and bogged it all up. once sprayed hopefully should blend it.

its my first time though so im scared.

all up the paint, primer, thinners and clear coat cost me $350.

ill post more pics once i start the next phase.

as you can see one alipne window was bad and the other side was perfect.

    i was pleasantly surprised.

its hard yakka though sanding the paint off. i thought i could do it over a weekend and get it ready for painting.

took me about 3 weeks. mostly weekend work. and i even bought an electric sander which makes it easier but is still slow.

If you reckon that was hard yakka, wait till you start fitting the alpine windows back in.

That is hard yakka, I swear my fingers have still not recovered from fitting the rubbers.

ps: looks good so far tho.

    G`day Fausto79,

I`ve been going through AULRO as usual and just came across your thread.
I`ll be following your progress with great interest since my 1996 Disco 1 is suffering from the same rust symptoms.

Been thinking of attending to it for a while, but now I am worried that I could actually be in the same condition as yours, perhaps even worse.

If you don’t mind, could you PM me the windscreen guys contact details please? Don’t think I`ll use him anytime soon, but always good to have a contact in Perth just in case.

Here`s the condition of my rust issues, at least what`s visible from outside, windscreen upper seal:

    Alpine window left hand side:

    Cheers..

    some in the wild

    as title says.

PS MrCat did i PM you the number? im not sure if i have seen your post or not already. let me know if you still need it. if i were you i would get onto it ASAP. if it's bad it's bad, at least you will know. if you leave it it's not going to get better. you might be still in time and only have to fix a little bit. rust is one of those things that will only get worse and can end a car.

    Windscreen contact

Hi, thanks for all your great help on Aulro.

I have Disco1 95 300TDi, front windscreen is leaking sometimes, mainly when I wear a suit and foolishly take the Landy...

I live in North Beach WA and would like the contact details of the guy who did your windscreen removal and replace. Also Im considering the roof paint job while its all out and rust proofed, can you recommend someone to paint it please?

    Thanks again

    Len
