    Stepper motor issues

    Ok,
I've replaced this little buggar twice now. Giving me the ****s, it just started again idling high, it's doing its usual thing and revving at 1500 and then settling down to 950-1100.

I plugged in my rovergauge in and it came up with the fault code on the stepper motor. I tried to clear it, but it wouldn't. I'm guessing cos it's stuffed. BUT is there anything else that will cause these same issues?
Has anyone got a working one that I can borrow just to problem solve this.

    I love in Kew.

    Cheers Nat

    Maaate.

Just a bit of moral support. I'm still in the process of getting my revs down. I've had my stepper unplugged for about 2 months now after the revs hit 2000. I managed to get them as low as 1000 by unplugging the stepper motor after adjusting it manually. I've had the engine scanned at my local and it says that it is sitting at 71 steps when warm. It should be around 30. I don't know how and I don't know why. Do you get that lovely thump when going into reverse at 1000 revs? I get around that by putting the A/C on and letting it drop the revs for me. Apparently a Faultmate can adjust the steps, so instead of giving any more money to the mechanic so "he can have a bit of a look and see what he can do", I'll be buying one of those asap. Another method apparently is to Reset Adaptive Values, but not too sure of the other effects on the motor if you do this. Good luck, and if you get it sorted let me know. Any info on this would be appreciated. Of course I'll also let you know if I ever get mine fixed.
    Cheers
    John.

hay john!!! I had the same problem as well. I noticed that my plug had broken (the clip to secure it in) I noticed that you can plug it in 4 different ways, I just tried it then and the result was it hit 2000 3 out of 4 times. so I went and brought a new waterproof plug from Jaycar ,same as factory for $16. I marked it as well just for good measure. Job done... yep should have done that ages ago.

Have a look at yours , send me ya email via PM and I'll send you a pic of mine to compare.

This seemed to work until I gave the accelerator a go. I am now going to check base settings and then I reckon I have a vacuum leak, can anyone confirm this may be the cause.

Ok all fixed, hose came off which goes to the file rail. It plugs in underneath the stepper motor at he rear.... Was hard to see. Whilst I was there I checked for leakz; none. Check all other hoses; ok.
Reset base idle and checked throttle position sensor all good.
    Yep I'm a bit special someone's

    Don't fit in?

Yeah those x5'ers probably sense they are missing something, but cant quite put their finger on it. I think it's called effortless style.
