    ENGINE IMMOBILIZER "SPIDER"

G'day......... I have another discovery-1 at the moment it is a 6 month 1996-build-date V8 Auto. I've had the dash out looking for the immobilizing "SPIDER" which is suppose to be behind the radio on the fire wall. Nothing not even a black plug to show where it was. Can anyone tell me where to look or what I have to do to stop the alarm light glowing on the dash, when it comes on every now and then I have to get out lock the door ,so I'm turning the alarm on, then off by unlocking, and then it will start. By the way when the alarm light is on the engine will not crank over.
I thought all '96 series-1 discovery's had this SPIDER, my original car a '95 build date certainly had one until I got the loop- plug for it. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.
    Thanks.. John

Thanks Gary, this post has been viewed 71 times and I'm amazed that more people would have had this problem with the alarm immobilizing spider. Then again leave it for a week and see what happens.

On our old 96 Tdi Disco we had intermittent problems with it just cutting out. Became worse over time with I occasionally leaving you stranded mid intersection and the worst once on train lines at a crossing.
Austral had the vehicle for weeks trying to find problem. It happened to them too so they witnessed it.
Long story short that model wasn't supposed to have spider so they weren't looking for that. Turns out it did and when they realized that it was fixed pronto.
According to them 96 doesn't have spider. Maybe you don't have

thanks kenleyfred, I think your trying to say maybe mines not a 6/96 build?
I'm only going off land rover plate in front of radiator which has on it the build date.

Thanks stacks, but I know what it looks like, what I'm trying to find out is how do I fix the alarm ( immobolization) when the car has not got a "spider".

My 96 mod had a spider. When I took it off the road and parted out I found the black loop plug already fitted. it was on the drivers side up high near the tunnel from memory. I think it was about an August build but would have to find the plate in the shed to confirm.
    Cheers, David.

Thanks Stacks, I had I had already considered that, if it had been I would have found the loop plug, I had a good look around it . Both of them the spider and the loop plug.
Looks like I've stumped the brains on this forum doesn't it, I'm surprised, although most of the answers I got were very helpful I have come to the conclusion that there mustn't be that many '95-'96 models still around with this alarm problem, a lot of people don't seem to know what I'm talking about.
I have been advised though if you have a question DO the search at the bottom of the page first........ Good advise.
    Shepherd.
