EDC means Electronic Diesel Control and is a fly by wire system that was fitted to 300 tdi auto disco's from 1996 on (but not here in oz as far as I know). EDC operation info attached.

plenty in NZ as well as jap imported HONDA badged discos.

my understand ins that no one cracked the ecu unit for the discos. so re chiping flashing etc is out of the question, pigy back chips trick the ecu into doing things but no outside it programing.

infact you do not even have to get a chip. just a resistor on the ambient air temp wire will up fuleing along with disabling the bypass on the turbo.

about 10 minits work and another 20% HP

Hi yes you can piggy back, however you need to watch the EGT, the Ronbox is a safe option as it does not raise the EGT to an excessive temp, max I have found with mine, namely full load is 680 degrees, horse box two horses up on of NZ steep mountain passes.

A mate, has done the cheaper option, high EGT plus poor fuel consumption. Yes the Ronbox tricks the ecu, however not to the extent of potential damage to the engine, plus it allows for slight better fuel efficiency, if the fueling is turned down.

    Cheers

I've got one, but needs a replacement head after the previous owner blew a hose on the beach and kept driving to get it off the beach and out of the way of the tide
