Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.
And get a low coolant alarm or Engine Watchdog or similar temperature monitor.
If it still happens to have plastic bungs in the top of the radiator and thermostat housing replace them with the brass ones.

Also, pull up the carpet and check for rust in the front footwells and the rear luggage area. Generally look around inside for signs of leaks, such as discoloured carpet, roof lining or trim. The heater can block and drip water into the footwells, or water from a leaky windscreen can run down inside and pool there.
Then crawl around underneath and look for rust. Also check around the opera windows at the top.
Hoses, belts and filters should all be checked. If in doubt, replace them - they're cheap insurance. All fluids should be replaced - don't forget the transfer case. Check bearings too. How are your suspension and steering bushes?
Don't forget to check the oil filter INSIDE the gearbox as, if it gums up with goop, it can stop the oil flowing and cause damage to the internals. There is also a second fuel filter down the back near the tank. It doesn't need replacing, but it can be opened on the bottom to drain accumulated debris.
Thorough maintenance now will save you a lot of money later. They're very capable vehicles if looked after, and relatively cheap to buy.
Cheers guys sadly before I even got to the bank to get the money out the guy text me and told me he sold it to another guy so back to searching for me :/

RE: Timing Belt?
Is there 2 belts on the Tdi? One for Timing and the other drives the Injector Pump ? The only reason I ask is this is what a mechanic told me but I didn't think there was.....
cheers.....
Rob
The one you can see in the engine bay is a serpentine belt that drives the water pump and alternator. The timing belt is hidden behind a cover on the front of the engine and is a bit of work to change. This drives the injector pump and is the important one everyone talks about. You may also have a belt driving the AC compressor.

Thanks Steve.... thought that was the case....
I've come across a '99 model Tdi with ABS braking..... I'm assuming this must be the last models b4 going to the TD5's with a bit of a hybrid bits in it.... Is the ABS in the TDi's common and if not, would it be an issue? I'm assuming if the ABS fails due to faulty sensors, etc, that it just reverts back to a NORMAL type of braking system??
