It won't be a roady issue if you get a mod plate, turning it into a two seater, if that suits your needs.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
I am pretty sure that in Victoria at least, seats can be removed legally without any hassles, adding extras requires engineering. Incidentally, I have a four door shell with rear seats you can have if interested.
Cheers,
Woolly.
I thought so too... Nope. Requires engineering, stupid as that seems. Bloke who did the RWC on my D2 was worried, as mine is plated as a 7, but only has 5. I got away with it as the car had previously been in my name and therefore didn't need a Vicroads inspection. At the same time the shop near me was having to engineer a Deefer that had had all the rear seats removed. Seems that ANY change these days and it's $750 for the bit of paper. Never mind that the car was built for many different configurations. Victoria is nuts.

I have to differ with this assessment. I've spoken to some mechanics about seats. definitely fronts leave them in, but the ones I've spoken too about don't care about rears(or 'middle row') as long as you leave in the seats belts and the don't mod the mounts.
There is provisions in the rules for temp seat removal, as some cars have quick release systems in place where you can take seats out without the need for tools. eg. is my sis' Rav has this.
On any vehicle under 4.5t made before 1969 ... anything goes. But after 1969 and under 4.5t you can temporarily remove seats no problem, but it has to be a temporary removal ... ie. don't modify the mounts(ie. delete) and keep seat belts etc.

Edddo,
If your Yack is Yackandandah Victoria, then I'm not far from you.
I have a set of rear seats from a 4 door you can borrow for a RWC, I might have to scratch around for roadworthy seatbelts.
My understanding is in Vic, seats can be temporarily removed without engineering, but are required for a roadworthy.

Differ away....But it was made clear to me that if I was transferring the car into my name it would have to be Vicroads inspected and without the rear seats/belts it would fail, as it is plated as a 7 seater. Now mine is reregistered I don't care, and will probably remove the second row as well, but I would have to replace the lot if I sell it registered.

Just had a look at a mate’s 3door. I would say that at a glance the seats and belts are the same as my 5 door. I didn’t get out the tape measure though.

thanks for the offers of seats and opinions on this.
I have spoken to a few mechanics and a couple of VASS engineers.
For a Vic RWC the number of seats have to match the seating capacity on the compliance plate..if not then 800 odd bucks for some paper.
Someone said 'Vic is nuts'....yep.
In any case the 2 door fell through and I have bought a 4 door with all the seats in it so I have avoided this process.
