Yer biggest problem is that the engine mounts are in a different place on the chassis so you need welding and engineering inspections. Perhaps you should look at a body swap instead.
Hi, I have a 96 Disco 1 with a 300 Tdi manual. What is involved in putting the motor and manual box into a 98 Disco that is currently a V8 Auto. Are things like the speedo cables etc the same. I have all ancillaries for the 300Tdi such as A/C, alternator, radiator etc. They are both going units.
Thanks in advance,
Tom.

Hi Bee-utey, thanks for the reply. Is the difference because of the different year model (96 Vs 98) or because of the different driveline? I.e. is a 96 Tdi chassis/mounts different to a 96 V8?
Thanks,
Tom.
All V8 D1s have the chassis mounts different to the diesel regardless of the year.
As far as I remember, putting an earlier model engine in a later car is Verboten in NSW, to do with pollution rules, if you put an early model engine into a later model, the early engine has to comply with the later model's pollution laws and you need to supply proof that it complies with an engineers report, could be expensive, good luck, Regards Frank.
Quite true, but the emissions specification for a specific engine class lasts as long as the ADR compliance doesn't change. AFAIK new diesel emissions rules were introduced for MY1995 and not changed until MY 2002 engines.

Hi Bee Utey and Frank, I won't be going ahead with this as I don't want to get into the welding and engineering side of things. I was aware of the pollution side of things. Thanks for the advice though, saved me time and money.
Cheers,
Tom.
