Finally fitted new hood release cable ( inner and outer).
***** of a job as the aftermarket trans cooler and winch controller had to be removed to do it.
But now working with about a tenth of the pull.

Also fiddled with the rear lower shock bushes. I dont like the insitu cups on mine because ther is a risk that with bush compression the washers will hit the cup edge-so experimenting with different bush types to maximise the clearance with desert trip only weeks away now

    Winch work

put this on, on the weekend. got rid of steel rollers as i am putting on synthetic rope. havent put the rope on as the retaining screw was bent and was too late to find replacement.

also, i lost the old one during cleanup

I also started putting my interior back together. the centre tunnel stuff after my clutch gearboxes work. I have a brand new auto centre tunnel. gona try and modify it using my old one (manual) so that i can install the window switches and make it all look nice and new. old one is cracked to bits.

i put the gaiters back on for the time being and re riveted the rubber cover and put on the sound insulating foam. i cannot believe how much of a difference that stuff makes to the interior sound. it is so much more quiet now.

actually feels really nice to drive at the moment. i seem to be going the long way around the block each time i drive it.

    Performance Mod

incidentally, whilst i was putting on that hawse fairlead i accidentally came across a good performance modification for people with arb bull bars on their discos.

behind the rollers on the inside of the bar was about 2 inches of old mud left behind from various adventures. it was a few different colours. i could actually date them all back and match them to places ive been and the previous owners too. a bit of archaelogical/geological work.

anyway, after cleaning it all out, i shed about 300kg from the total weight of the car. the performance difference is unbelievable. i no longer get those sparks coming from the front end and i can actually see the sky in front of me whilst driving.

i can now get a 0-100kmh time of 3 minutes and 23 seconds.

I replaced the rivets with screws and fast clips, one of the best things I ever did.

    Tom.
you know what? i was thinking about that the whole time since i first drilled the old rivets off. but i was thinking along the lines of nylocs and bolts.

i hopefully dont need to pull it off again for a long time to come, because in the end decided to use my underused rivet gun.
