    Low coolant/high temp alarm sensor

Hi all, I've finally got around to fitting my low coolant/ high temp system to my disco. Low coolant sensor is fine but where is the best place to bolt the temp sensor to get the best feedback?

And what temps should I be seeing?

Hi Ace, I bolted mine to the thermostat housing. Gives a good readout. As you will gather, we're in the same neck of the woods, so if you want a peep let me know. Else, there is a thread on here somewhere that shows a sensor with a copper fitting made out of copper pipe bolted to the thermostat housing (which I copied).

    Cheers,
    Tom.

I fitted mine to the thermostat housing.

The sensor is enclosed in that copper tube that was flattened on one end, bent over, drilled and bolted to the housing.

It responds quite quickly, but I haven't checked the accuracy of the system. Perhaps before I fitted it I should have immersed the sensor in hot water and compared with another thermometer.

What temps are you guys getting. Mine hovers between 90-100 but there's a couple of hills around that make it rise as high as 110 and the temp gauge on the car rises aswell. I've had the radiator rodded, it has a new heater core, the cowl over the top of the radiator broke so I've had one made out of aluminium. The viscous fan is shagged, I ordered one from the UK at the beginning of December but it still hasn't arrived, I'm hoping it has been help up with the Xmas rush but I fear I may have done my dough cause a steering wheel I ordered at the same time arrived before Xmas.

Where in Bathurst are you Tom?

Hi Discofever, thanks mate, what temp does it hit if you labor up a long steep hill?

108-110 mate. The temp gauge will increase slightly over half before settling down to just under half again when it flattens out. The sensor drops almost immediately as well. The first time it happened I was a little concerned and pulled over at a servo to run a vehicle check and it was all good. The temp fluctuation was the same on my old 92 Disco as well. Cheers.

Thanks mate, that makes me feel a bit better. My viscous fan clutch arrived today so I'll get that fitted up and see if that drops it a bit more.

    Do you have working aircon?

And the aircon doesn't drive the temp up much higher?
