Actually I forget that there's one aspect of the stock distributor that can adversely effect the idle, and that's the clearance between the star rotor and the pickup under that plastic cover. Pics and explanation for dissy repair in this thread:

    Thanks again

So Scott , I am a bit slow on the uptake but you completely changed the Dizzy and coil and ignition module? It was a complete Scorcher system?

Could I have exact model numbers etc please.

Beeutey. We did change over the old coil and ignition module with brand new ( but the same spec ) modules. The auto elect tried the Bosch one but couldn't get a spark.

It does run fine , but maybe a bit rich? ( even when hot ) on petrol.

You would think then that it was the gas system but reading on here highlights the fact that a lot of 3.9 V8's on gas have ignition issues.

    Pete

Try contacting Performance Ignitions, they sell them and are best placed to advise on suitability.

Your auto electrician wasn't trying very hard. It's only four wires, and it's all in the Bosch conversion thread. Did he try a real Bosch module or a fake Chinese one?

The MAF has an idle mixture adjustment screw, find it and adjust it to the workshop manual specs.

No Kidding. That's why nearly all gas converted LRs coming through my workshop end up with Bosch module conversions.

    You know what.

I am just going to take the car to performance ignitions and get them to do a complete new system. Cost is around $ 800 . Pity I just wasted $ 450 getting my auto elect to do the other stuff.

That may or may not fix it but at least it 100% takes ignition problems out of the equation.

Ok. Temperature watchdog has car at 102/103 C sitting in traffic which is where it usually cuts out on gas.
Infrared thermometer shows 112/113 at the thermostat housing where the temp watchdog sensor is !
That may be operator error on my part with the infrared.
Booked in next week to get the cooling system checked ?
