    Bigger radiator and intercooler mod

Hi this is my first post. I've recently bought a 98 discovery 300 tdi. I've ordered a bigger radiator for it from Ali sport, and bigger intercooler from ASI performance. i tried fitting them last night, I removed the the old ones and removed the old radiator support and can just about manage to squeeze them in next to each other but I'm unable to secure them in place. I was wondering if anybody had done a mod similar to this and tell me how they went about it, pics would be Great if possible. Also mine has AC and I would like to keep it if poss. Thanks for reading.

    Hi Thehoff08.
Sorry, but I haven't done either of those things to mine, so can't offer any direct help.
Have you asked the guys that you bought them from? (No doubt they are going to blame each other... )
I was just wondering why you decided to do these two mods.
What else has been done to the engine to warrant a bigger radiator? Or was that needed to accommodate the bigger intercooler?
    Just curious.

Hi the reason im replacing my radiator for a bigger 1 is because i find that on hot days when im going up steep hills that the temp gauge almost goes to red and overheats. Ive recently put a mew water pump and thermostat on it and its still doing it so just thought this mite help. And as for the intercooler, the standard 1 is leaking at the moment so i just thought id replace it with a nice shiny ally 1. No reason in particular. Im hoing to try fit them next week do some modifications hope it goes well.

I don't suppose it's you temp gauge or sensor??? (Or the dreaded warped head/blown head gasket...)
As far as I know, the TDis aren't known for getting hot that easily.
Mind you, I would love to put a bigger radiator and intercooler in mine.
Don't think the minister of war and finance will allow it though.

Does the new intercooler go in front of the new radiator or beside?
Let us know how you get on and post some pics if you can.
    Cheers.
    Jeff

Hoff, sounds like the usual viscous unit failure, getting it hot near the red zone is a one way ticket to a new head.

    Intercooler dimentsions

Hi Hoff, measure the new radiator and intercooler against the old ones. I assume your having trouble fitting them in side by side, and the rubber strip that go between them to stop them rubbing.( if same as defender )

I had a similar problem when I fitted the APT bigger intercooler, beside my standard radiator they fit in there quite neatly.

The problem was the APT intercooler, it has some proud weld beads on the sides of the tanks. I sanded them down with the flap disc then it was OK.

post a photo if you have no luck. simmo

Hi, I chased my overheating problem all over and it finally came down to the welsh plug at the rear and the one behind the water pump, the water pump housing was also pitted, possible cavitation
