Thread: Self initiating brake lights

Help needed. My late Discovery 1 300 TDI auto has taken to turning on the brake lights all by itself. I first noticed it one night when all of a sudden the brake lights came on my parked vehicle. I've done a fair bit of research and would agree that I've got a short somewhere but I'm at a loss as to the best method to isolate the fault. I should note that the fault is intermittent which makes it difficult to resolve. Any suggestions would be appreciated. There is no need to suggest that it's haunted as my neighbour has already suggested that.

Minor movement in the brake pedal maybe actuating the brake light switch. Is there any freeplay in the pedal. The return spring may not be holding the pedal in the upper postilion.
