    3.5 V8 Operating temps

Noticed the other week after doing some big hill climbs on a moderately hot day, that the temps on my '93 3.5 V8 Disco were climbing a bit higher than I would like.

Turning the AC (which doesn't work) on and getting the condenser fans going was enough to keep it under control, so I'm guessing the viscous coupling is suspect.

It has an aftermarket temp gauge, which normally sits on 78-80 at normal cruising speeds, factory gauge dead on half. I had the factory gauge up near the red on the hills, with the other showing 95-100 before I switched the condenser fans on.

It has a 82deg thermostat fitted, but depending on where you get the info from, this is either right, or it should be an 88deg one. Is the temp set points for fueling the same for the 3.5 and 3.9's?

I have some falcon thermo's which I mite fit. Am I right in saying that the switch I need would have a shut off setting just lower than the thermostat opening setting. ie 80-85 for a 82 deg thermostat or 85-90 for a 88deg one? Will prob look at second switch and run the fans with the two speed setup.

    Cheers
    Rick

Also appears that I have the wrong temp sender (for the gauge) fitted. I have PRC8003 fitted, should be PRC8783. 8003 is for manual trans, 8783 is for auto trans. Not sure what the difference is, or indeed why there needs to be a difference for auto/manual trans.

You generally set thermo fans to come on just above operating temp which should about 88 .
