D2TD5 Cruise control suit D1V8. wiring aside ?

Just about to put the the D1 on the market and want to make sure it's right for the new owner.

The cruise didn't work when I bought it and seeing as I am a fussy bastard I had to get it going and I got a 2nd hand D1 one for $50 and put it in. Hooray, It worked

That has since stopped as well Someone said it would.

Apparently you can use a D2 one in a D1 if you change the wiring , which I will do.

I have a wiring diagram to hook up a D2 one to a D1 one.

Thing is , is it the same part for a D2 TD5 and D2 V8?

D2 td5 does not have a separate cruise control. It is in the ECU or bcu or whichever it is. So are them indicators.

The main reason D1 cruise controls don't work is related to vacuum. If one of your vacuum hose has perished and split it will not work.
Check all your hoses from the pump, which is situated at the front (in front of the air cleaner look down , there is a hole and you'll see wiring going into it, under that hole is the pump.)

The pedals have a vacuum switch, one behind the brake pedal, one for the clutch pedal if a manual, (unsure if there is another on the auto models)
Check the hoses there , The switches have a racket length adjustment, you can pull on the plunger to lengthen it if it doesn't not make proper contact to the pedals. These valve switches must be closed to hold vacuum for the CC to work. When the pedal is pressed the switch open and releases vacuum , disengaging the CC.

If you can attach a piece of hose to the switches and suck on the hose they should hold vacuum. You could also suck on the vacuum hoses and see if you can suck air or if it holds vacuum to check your hoses.

    Cheers, Mario

    Thanks Mario

I was going to do all those vacuum checks last time and opted for changing out the Cruise control ECU card first because someone told me they had a tendency to crack on the printed soldered plate maybe.

I'll check all the vacuum stuff.

Thanks Phillip for the advice on the TD5 controller

I think I have a lead on another D1 V8 Cruise ECU and will fit that.

GEMS P38 (95-98) have the same ECU as the D1.

The later P38s use the D2 petrol ECU & it can be fitted with a little wiring mod.

I have had a few issues with my D1 cruise control.
In my case it was the electric switch thing inside the bellows.
Not where you plug goes but inside the actual bellows thing.
Not sure what its called but it had got water in it and corroded.
Once i freed that up it worked as expected.
Silly place to have it positioned anyway.
Very easy to get water on them even though they are what appears to be a sealed unit.
