Hi All
I am a new member to the forum.
Mine is a 1997 Disco 1 TDi, owned since new, 214,000 km and stock except for new suspension (not lifted).
I was always proud of the engine cooling, spent two years in the NT and have never seen the temp gauge move above mid-range. Then I read on this forum about the accuracy and responsiveness of the temp gauge!
Purchased an engine guard temp monitor (that measures metal temp).
Installation requires an ignition switched 12v source and 1 Amp fuse.
I'm stumped on how to find and wire into such a source.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Temp monitor is installed.
Hardest part was getting the sensor wires through the firewall.
Mounted the gauge to the right of the instrument binnacle using velcro tape and a small piece of aluminium angle, bent to give a decent sighting angle.
Wires are exposed as they run down the side of the dash and into the fuse box area : doesn't look the best but no holes were drilled in the dash.
Sensor is attached to thermostat housing bolt.
On a short run the following was observed:
Temp gauge came off the bottom stop at 42 deg C on the monitor,
Temp gauge reached bottom mark of normal range at 52 on the monitor
Temp gauge settled into mid position with monitor at 75.
I've set the alarm at 85 for now. Long run next weekend with a few long hills - so will see what happens then.
