A d1 in good nic is hard enough to find in your budget.

Hmm.. Looks like my budget my not allow me trouble free motoring then. There does seem to be a few D1's with no rego on Gummy pretty cheap. Some looking/sounding good, and others.... Not so much..

Is maintenance on these things really that bad/expensive?

No they are cheap and easy to maintain but remember we are talking about a vehicle that is 18yo at its youngest, compare with any other vehicle the same age.

In my experience they require more regular maintenance, observation etc than say a landcruiser but are cheaper to buy, easy to work on, good mileage and quite well priced parts. Any neglected vehicle will have a heap of issues.....and if you want trouble free, a lot of time and $$ to get it back in shape.

Yeah.. Time is OK, as I don't mind swinging a spanner.. It is more that I want it as a daily, and comfortable cruiser.
