    Jerry can holder

    Hey folks,
Has anyone made a jerrycan holder that fits onto the spare tyre bracket at the back of a disco 1?
It seems like an ok idea to me. The spare tyre could then go on the roofrack...

    Jerry cans...

This has always been something I wished to do because of the ease it would allow you to handle the jerry cans, perhaps sourcing of some perentie jerry can holders, they mount on to the back of the vehicle in a way which may allow some adjustment, just a thought. My solution however was to mount my jerry cans on the roof, I have four and keep my two water cans snugly behind my front passenger seat, alternatively if you could source a swing which already has one or two jerry can holders on it that could work.

That's an interesting idea. Does a tyre weigh less than a fuel can? I went with the swing arm as mine carries two jerry cans plus the spare wheel and it also takes the weight off the door. When I go bush for extended periods, a second spare goes on the roof in front of the Roof Top Tent.

I've got 4 jerries (10 litres each) that fit into a box that goes on the front of the roof rack. Box also contains a 5 litre engine oil, and 1 litre each of gear oil, atf and brake fluid, as well as the trusty grease gun, all packed in with rags. Only fill the fuel ones when needed, and use them as soon as I can. Helps move a little weight to the front axle as well.

I weighed my spare tyre and it is 28kg. Coincidentally a full jerrycan (20L) of unleaded is ~14kg (fuel weighs less than water). So 2x jerry cans is equal to the single spare tyre.

I used to keep my jerry cans on the roofrack but they are an absolute pain to lift up and down when they are full - and being the V8, i tend to be using them a lot...

I am designing a dual holder at the moment. I will weld it up in a week or so when i get some new new steel. I have already built and installed a nice set of draws so this job is next.

On a side note, i removed my spare tyre bracket yesterday and flipped it, and it made no difference to tyre clearance. I always thought that was a common mod to carry a bigger spare?
