Sounds pretty good to me, if it didn't minimise when you backed off I'd say it was an alternator but maybe LT230 whine ?
Hello experienced Landrover owners....
not very sure the attached vid will work, but I am hopeful!
There is a nasty little noise bugging me on my D1 manual, build up through all gears on acceleration, hitting worst pitch over 80 km/h, worsens when easing off the accelerator and disappearing (more or less) completely when taking foot off the pedal altogether.
best described as mix between dentist drilling into teeth and circular saw permanently cutting aluminum in the cab
been going on for a while, tried a bunch of remedies, none of which eliminated the noise - would like to hear fresh input as it is getting a bit annoying on highway trips, and something is clearly not happy....!!!
ppleaaaase can someone come up with a magic solution![]()

Mmm does sound like straight cut gears .
Checked universals?

Had that noise on my 130, turned out to be collapsed bearings in the LT230. Transfer case rebuild solved it. $$ though.
Yes, I checked the unis, no vibrations or clunking going with it, so don’t think it can be them
and yes, I heard LT230 a few times... in fact I got it rebuilt for that reason.... however the noise didn’t change...![]()
any other votes going for the transfer case?
or anyone got any suggestions on how to eliminate any of the other components (diff, R380, CV...?)?

Does not sound too bad to me. I just wonder why its revving so high my old RR classic was about 1900rpm at 80 2500rpm at 110. Its not the transfer case out of a Defender is it?
