Discovery 1 V8 Fuel Pump Problems

Got a problem with my Disco. It was intermittently stopping until it just wouldn't go again. I couldn't figure it out so called RACQ. They checked I had spark then put sprayed some start ya bastard or similar into the intake and it ran so diagnosis is bad fuel pump and got it towed home.

I've replace a couple of these in the past with commodore pumps so did that. Still no good so checked for power and theres nothing.

I pulled out the fuel pump relay and put a jumper between terminals 30 and 87 and now have power to the pump. I also tried a new relay but no difference. I can hear it running but the car still wont start.

Has anyone got any idea where to start looking.

I'd start looking for an airlock, blockage or leak. If you don't know the history of the car check it doesn't have an extra inline fuel filter that is blocked, as I've had that happen.

check for fuel pressure, IVe had the pumps strip the impeller off the shaft before today.

As said, check fuel pressure at the injector rail. if you don't have a gauge then it's possible to loosen union and see if fuel comes out when cranking.
Not a good idea to have fuel when there are potential sparks. remove coil HT center one on dissy)lead first and use lots of rags.

Behind the drivers side rear wheel is the fuel filter, could be blocked up a bit, especially if car cutting out for a time previously.

check the fuel injector fuse, or fuel system fuse, 20 amp right next to fuel pump fuse.

There is a Schrader valve in the line (RHS IIRC) under the bonnet. Do not stand in front of it when you push the core to check for pressure.

Finally got back to this after being a bit crook and other distractions. Turns out it was the ECU relay. I had already bought a new fuel pump relay thinking that was the culprit and today swapped it into the ECU relay plug. Started straight away.
Got to put everything back together now because a couple of weeks ago I was thinking it must be the spider cutting power to the fuel system and once I got the dash centre out found the previous owner has had it bypassed already.
