If it is original Land Rover installation, it will be security coded. This prevents anyone else being able to use it if it is stolen from your vehicle.

You should have a security code on a card with your owner's manual, plus instructions on how to enter the code into the stereo head unit. Follow these instructions and all should return to normal.

If you don't have the security code and instructions, you can get these from Land Rover dealer. They will require some information from you on details of the vehicle and proof of ownership.

This applies not only to Land Rover, but to almost every vehicle manufacturer these days.

Yeah what he said! Although it is unusual for it to come back on and flash....mine usually just goes to the four dashes. It will stay like this for a ful hour and then I think you get another three goes to get the code right.

This is a protection mechanism to stop some sod stealing your stereo. After fidling with the car enough times you will memorize it anyway! lol

Yep - had this problem with one of the work Prado's. Had the battery disconnected so many times that I ended up memorizing the code for the stereo.

Another strange one with the Prado is that, when you disconnect the battery, all four side windows lose their memory and will not open / close on full auto. You have to manually fully lower and then fully raise each window, using the control button on each door (not the master buttons on the driver's door). After doing this, everything returns to normal, and you can auto lower / auto raise all the windows again.

As the Disco's only have auto lower on the front windows ONLY and don't have auto raise on any of the windows, I don't suppose this is a problem.

I looked in the manual found the security code and followed procedure in manual after locating it!

Worked a treat. Had to endure a 11.5 hour trip without my music. For me it was agony !!!

Moral of the story: Never be afraid to ask even if you think your question sounds dumb! Thanks to everyone and thank goodness for this forum!

No worries mate... Have you worked out yet why your back windows only go down half way yet?!

That one took me a while to work out...doh!
