    Painting Aluminium

I was considering doing the roof and hood of my disco (bit faded) and a few dents on a door. I only know how to use acrylic and if I cant on alum, I guess its a crash course in 2 pak for me . the clear and whatnot. But not to sure of the preparation of aluminium or even the use of filler on it. Can anyone shed some light on this please.

Just to shorten previous discussion - painting aluminium is the same as normal automotive painting except for the need to apply a thin coat of etch primer to the cleaned surface as the first layer. Available from any paint shop, and also available in spray cans, which is probably useful as you won't need much.

Any of the usual paints can be used over this, only catch is if while sanding back you get bare metal, you need to reapply the etch primer.

    the roof and what?

yep, as jd said, it's the same as any other metal surface to paint.
on your disco the roof is steel and the bonnet is aluminium, as are the mudguards, doors and the rear body panels.

the 'hood' is the bastard trying to steal it.
