D1 rear door wont open with out key in lock

Hi Guys got a little problem with the mighty beast!!!!
The rear door wont open unless i put the key in and hold it in the unlock position(other wise when you pull the handle inside or out the lock pin drops down as the handle is lifted)? the damn thing use to work fine off the central locking (I've even changed the locking solenoid) opened it up and cleaned out about 2kgs of lovely central aust red dust/talcum powder. but to no avail had a little poke around, the child lock seems to be in order and changing the position makes no diff. the next door neighbour reckons he disturbed some low life trying to break in one night, but for the life of me i cant see any damage or unusual scratches on the door or lock. HELP its driving me nuts.

You may need to get a new or second hand lock for it as it sounds as if it is worn.I changed mine with a second hand one and it was fine after that.

G'day, Mine does this also. It's caused by a tensioning spring that's lost it's tension. I replaced it with one that I had lying around but it wa too strong and the rear door wouldn't stay locked. I refitted the original one but I have to fix it one day as it ****es me off also.
You don't need the whole lock, just the spring.

There is a spring that can be bought over ebay, mine failed and I was lucky to find a spring in my box of tricks (it has a different wind to most springs)

I have seen on this site people buying the spring and fitting it. It comes with instructions and is easy to fit. And cheaper couple of bucks compaired to hundreds

Yep thats the little bugga!!!! in a fit of frustrated motivation this arvo i pulled the whole thing out and a part. found a snap spring in 2 pieces. luckily with a bit of hunting for a bit of wire about the same gauge (spring out of a wooden clothes peg) bent into the same shape as the old one, and eventually got it into the tiny gap reassembled and eureka the lock works just like before. I'm not sure where disco95 put his spring but i cant see how it keeps unlocking, unless you made the same assumption i did and put a spring on the inner Y piece, but its in the catch Assembly on the lift pin that trips the catch and is simply a snap spring unlock/in - lock/out, it just holds it in place. thanks guys for the help but i will be looking into that ebay spring for when my fine spring fails

I was hoping someone would post that too. Mine was doing the same so I ordered the little springs from the UK.

Only prob now is that the door opens ok, but now it won't lock with the central locking. guessing the actuator is a bit dicky.
