with no muffler and no resonator--
it will be LOUD. and it will drone at highway speeds,, but--
every one should do this once
after the neighbours have had their say---
add a small hotdog at the rear.

This weekend my brother will be looking at my V8 Disco exhaust as I want it to have a proper V8 sound as at the moment it sounds like a small truck
I was thinking 2.5" from the Y pipes to the tail, straight thru muffler with the resonator at the back removed .
Would like some feedback and advice on this before this weekend.
I don't want it to to noise in the cabin.

Mine is 2.5" from y pipe back.A straight through muffler sits at the front(just after y pipes)then straight through to the back.It drones on the hwy so i will probably put a resonator in at the back(just to keep the boy's in blue happy).
So have a listen

My Rangie has a straight through muffler after the Y join, then after the diff it splits back into two. One outlet each side in 2.5 inch. Pretty loud, but a nice note on acceleration. No noticeable drone on the open road, but maybe I just like that sort of noise.
One day when I am feeling rich I might get a twin system from the extractors right back. Should be pretty good.
I've got a 2.5" system with a pair of straight through mufflers on mine coupled with some extractors of unknown origin and a single cat.
Sounds rather nice now it has bedded in, nice low meaty rumble when idling around and a decent roar when you open it up. Get the tinyest bit of drone on the freeway but nowhere near enough for it to get remotely annoying - i think as a result of keeping a rear resonator rather than going with a straight pipe even if it is straight through.

(and yes i know a youtube video is pointless when pitch black at night but hey, you get the idea.)
Pretty much the same deal here. 2.5" from y-pipes back with a magnaflow brand centre and hot dog resonator at the back. It sounds great under load and when I down shift it pops and crackles a bit.
The only down side is some people tend to get all riled when you overtake them at full noise.

I love it when a plan comes together!

Mine is 2.5in from the Y pipe back. Seems like a common thing to do. It has a muffler in the middle and a resonator at the back. As fitted by the previous owner so don't know details.
One thing to note is that the pipe used to aim downwards at the rear. Not straight down but maybe 45 deg. I had to cut this part off to fit a rear bar so now it shoots straight out the back partially obscured by the bar. It is a bit louder than before so this is something to consider too.
I used to like this exhaust but having driven it for a bit over 2 years it can get a bit annoying at times. Mainly when standing around it at idle when trying to talk to people.
If you want it to sound real tough, and not like every other rover motor, you need twin 1-3/4" 2", with twin mufflers, no resonators, you won't get that single system drone and it'll sound horn![]()
I haven't check the size of pipe work on mine with calipersI've got Genie extractors into a Y-piece , then another piece welded onto original pipe work to a straight thru muffler and a resonator at the back , it sounds tough.

Ok now it's as follows starting from the Y pipes :-
2.5" pipes
Straight thru muffler
Resonator at the back
Oh I found this youtube clip and it what I am after.
