Bighorns!!!

What sort of life should i expect to get out of the tyres? I have heard great reports on the tyres handling its unanimous that they are good in wet/dry off road and on road :)

But I'm getting a very mixed report on tyre life, im aware it depends on driving style and vehicle as a heavier cruiser will wear them quicker but seeing you guys are running the same vehicle that eliminated. Well I'm very kind to tyres i rotate (including spare) every 5000Km's every journey starts and ends with 2k of unsealed dirt road,but other than that i mostly cover black stuff well maintained. With the odd w.e trip, but once iv got the goods ill be doing a little more regular w.e trips.
So basically what kind of life should i expect? some have said they are no good for more then 40,000 where as some are getting over 80,000 :eek:

I read so many conflicting reports about the lifespan of the Bighorns I decided to just find out for myself if they would last 10,000km or 80,000km (which seemed the be the kind of extreme ends of the tyres life I was reading). Most of the reviews on their performance on the whole was enough to convince me to go for them and find out

I got mine (245/75R16) fitted on Saturday morning - they've lasted okay on the 35km I've done so far :)

And to try and save you some time I'll suggest you give Bob Jane a call first - I rang round quite a few places but called Bob Jane last. They ended up being cheaper and more convenient than anyone else.

Hi Sam, we got ours from Bob Jane also, as you say they were the best of all of the tyre places we rang, i found afterwards that they are the sole diistribtor for Maxxis tyres.

After 100ks i'm happy, this morning the roads were wet, handled the wet road pretty well i thought.

245/75R16 $239 a tyre! I'm pretty happy with that price!

Thats for the maxxis Bighorn M/T.

So for that price i may as well give them ago i cant see me finding a competitive tyre, i was a BFG fella before i found these but I'm sure ill be happy for what I'm payin :)

Unless their one of those unlucky 10,000Km sets that i hear of :p

News to me :confused:

AFAIK they are imported and wholesaled by Tyremax.
That's who my tyre bloke gets Maxxis through, and he gets a delivery at least once a week.

I've been through two consecutive sets of BFG MT's and only get roughly 50,000km out of them, (255/85/16) and have had the Big Horns on since April and been happy with them so far.
A bit softer in the carcass than the BFG's so need a touch more pressure on road.

My opinion on the Bighorns after just 60K in the last 24hrs is that they are an incredible tyre for the price! $239 each fitted :)

I was lucky enough to drive them in many conditions just over the last 24hrs thanks to global warming. First when i left the tyre shop i was very pleased with the feel of the tyres on dry sealed roads, and they are noiseier then my A/T but not as loud and the BFG Muddies some of my mates are running! Then this morning i was able to test them on a wet sealed road and they preformed incredibly well! i was suprised how well these tyres hold on the the black stuff in the wet. Then to add to complete my investigation i drove on my 3km driveway which is dirt and has some high speed corners and tight narrow ones and yet again the tyres did their duty holding me on the path i pointed them at :D

To really test them i was not just driving like i would normally i thought id give them a go for their money so i through grover into corners fairly hard and kept the peddle on around roundabouts ad accelerating early out of the corners with no trouble.

I wouldn't recommend driving like this every day but it helpd me learn their limits which on the road it seems ill never reach :)

Oh and i was lucky enough to have someone offer to help test brakeing in the wet :p they decided to jump on their brakes in the wet to stop for...nobody but i managed to pull Grover up thanks to his new boots, id say with the old rubber on i would of atleast kissed th **** of the little run a bout :(

My tern to ask a question again, what psi should i run these tyres for general driving around town i dont carry any extra weight around!?

What size did you end up getting....just put a call into my tyre guy to see how long it would take to get them in for me....need to do my lift first...then the bighorns :cool:,

I ended up going with the 245/75R16's they look great people tell me with my lift they will clear, but i think ill cut the guards to be safe :)

Well they were the only tyre place that stocked around here, every tyre place we spoke said go to Bob Jane they were the distributers, never heard of Tyremax.
