When you say you had to stall the motor to stop it, was this because it continued to run when you turned the ignition off?
Hi recently after travelling a long distance ,the reservoir water tank cracked (black tank..yes i know they are??)and engine temp went to very hot..I stopped vehicle and had to stall it for engine to stop,I have replaced tank..topped it up again....bled the fuel system...but cant get it to start..motor turns ove however will not fire.Is there a problem with the fuel injection???and how will i get the vehicle out of safe mode.I live in an isolated area nearest dealer is nearly 1000 klms away.Anyone help..thanks.Vehicle is a 96 deisel discovery

yes...needed to turn ignition off however still ran
if it was only idling then your fuel shut off solenoid is either cactus or not getting volts to allow it to get the fuel flowing.
if it was trying to go flat knacker dont try to start it again, if it starts and runs away it can blow itself to pieces.
its going to be painfull but we really need more details

thanks dave..i have tried to utilise the manual pump on the fuel lift pump however doesnt seem to be picking up any diesel.could the problem lie between the fuel tank and the fuel lift pump?
how do i check the electrical cut off valve you mentioned?
Thanks

Hey mate,
There is a wire that runs to the back of the injector pump, first check to see if it hasn't come off, if it is still on could be loose, if so squeeze connector with a pair of pliers to make a tighter fit, if all ok with connector then might be broken wire or solenoid.
To check this turn ignition to the on position, pull wire off the solenoid and you should hear solenoid click off, if not you can get another piece of wire and go from the positive terminal of the battery straight to the solenoid and try that, if the solenoid clicks then it's the wire, easy fix just run another wire to it from another power source ( make sure it's from a source that gives power in the on position and not accessory ), if it doesn't click then you are up for another solenoid.
Hope this helps

thanks..so far ive tried the following..checked fuel solenoid....and is working correctly..checked and primed diesel for air blocks into the fuel filter..all ok....checked starter motor leads..battery connections..all good. things are starting to point to the spider box...i think i have located it and mine iis located near the relays and fuse box on drivers side.(ive been told that it is usually located behind the radio..and quite hard to get to....it is size of cig packet and has a 10,,or 12 pin socket on it..ive sprayed crc in there just in case there are dust bits etc in there..however me thinks that i should have used correct electrical contact spray,...should i take it out and blow compreesed air in there then use the electrical spreay or is the crc ok??...the quest continues..
