Considering rebuilding my '93, 3.9 Disco

Needs rust repaired in a few places. floor, under rear guards, doors, rear door sill (again), and who knows where else.

Also needs a new clutch and shocks, and has an annoying amount of transmission slack and snatch. Gearbox rebuilt 12/12 ago and whines like a bitch. (metaphor, not personalised)

    The drivers seat is stuffed.

    Driven about 350K.

It has been accessorised to my needs with the usual bar tank etc, so don't want to spend on those again.

    Is it worth it?

This quandry has been rattling around my head for quite a while now as I have pretty much cooked my engine even though it is still running it is buggered.

The idea of swapping everything onto a newer model is apealing what is the last year that the series one was made that 94 bits can go onto?

Given the cost of Disco1 V8s I'd buy a couple, build a great one, keep some spares and sell off the rest as individual parts.

    Blitz depends on the parts.
Is yours update or pre update?

If you have a bullbar then that will go on any model but if yours doesn't support SRS airbags then you will need to take that into account.

Do you have 10 spline or 24 spline axles? 94 model (MY95) onwards are 24 spline only.

Front seats and their mounts change over at MY96/MY97 as do a few other little things.

I discovered lots of little things that can be annoyingly different when you try and swap things but not noticeable in day to day use.

Mine is a change over 94 it has the 94 mechanicals but the 93 dash and five belts on the front of the motor.

was tossing around making a hybrid out of it using a county tray back as the donor body. but another disco would probably be the fastest and cheapest

i have a 97 i bought for 5.5 grand. we have spent total of 12 grand on it between gas conversion b.bar roof rack and scorcher distributer, after all that the engine blew, pick up came loose and ran dry, 6000 later for the engein machining and parts only (assemb my self) we have a 10.5 to one comp with a torque camshaft, now we are getting a loan for lockers and winch tyres ect all for just a 5000 doller car, well i say dosent matter what you choose to do as long as its what you want mate, lifes too short not to do the things you love. i say go big or go home. !

With that amount of rust i would be looking at getting another one in better condition and swapping all the good stuff onto it. There are plenty around cheap enough.
