I can not understand why anyone would waste $500 - $1000 dollars per year (and then pay loadings etc, and have all sorts of hastles making claims as we all hear the horror stories in dealing with insurance companies).
I spend less than $100 dollars on 3rd party property per year (just in case it is my fault and I hit something expensive).
I have saved $25 - 30K over nearly 30 years. I seldom own a car worth more than $10K (mind you I have spent a lot more on some cars).
The last car I wrote off (a HJ GTS Monaro back in the early 80's) I paid $4K for car (spent a $zillion modifying it which would never have been insurable,
yeah I know youth is wasted on the young) and then hit a roo about 18 months later. Sold the wreck in parts for $3+K. Insurance would have cost me $1.2K per year plus loading etc. I think the same could apply to most serious modified 4x4 in principle.
I don't even consider it a risk. If I total my Disco tomorrow I can walk away ahead (unless I total myself but that becomes a 3rd party personal injury). If I can recover any thing from wreck it would be a bonus.
Please someone tell me why you would comprehensively insure a vehicle worth less than $10K ? Perhaps I am just jealous of those who can afford $20k+ vehicles that are worth insuring
Food for thought
The cheapest part of 4x4ing is the fuel!
