    My holiday is over...

More than a month ago I set off from Ballarat Vic for a 4 and a bit week holiday up/down the east coast, going as high as Yeppoon (35 km north of Rockhampton, central QLD coast area), in a 97 Disco SE V8 Manual.

Car did very well, only blight was the battery died, but the old one was 5 1/2 years old...!

Less than 400 km from home, whilst overtaking a truck on dual carriageway, rock has chipped and cracked my windscreen, but as this is covered by my insurance I am not really counting this as I don't have to part with any $$ for it heh.

After some 6600 km's, I have worked out the fuel economy, coming in at 15.5l per 100km, which I think is pretty good as the air con was on practically the entire time, the car was chockers with stuff, and touring with 2, sometimes 3 people. Additionally, time was spent in both Brisbane and Sydney in heavyish traffic, so all in all I am quite happy with the economy. Average fuel cost was $1.01 cents per litre, ranging from 84c per litre (Brisbane) to $1.18 (Narrendera NSW), I certainly picked a good time to be travelling!

Anyway, this forum is quite often filled with problems, so thought I would share a good example of a Discovery doing a damned fine job

IF the pic works (I am new...!) it was taken not far from Bundaberg.

Good to hear. We did about 4000km over the break and I was getting about 15L/100 even with the 33s

I pity the Toyota owners who don't have the nice note of a V8 to keep them happy

Maybe but he's compensated for that by removing the wheel nut covers.

Good to hear you had a near trouble free trip .

Diesels are certainly more economical, but I looked for a petrol so it can be put on to gas.

If Diesel wasn't 30% more expensive than petrol, I would have gone down the Diesel path - but I do agree with another poster, I do love the V8 Sound

Hopefully Diesel will come back to where it should be in cost Vs Petrol...

Im doing Sydney - Brisbane - Sydney next week in my 97 D1 V8.
If I can get anywhere near your 15.5l / 100km, I will be a very happy boy. Im getting about 20l / 100km so the difference in range between mine and yours is 130kms!!!!

    Very good

We're doing 3 months after Easter in our 97 TDi taking in Flinders Ranges, Gammon Ranges, Oodnadatta Tk, all around Alice, Uluru, McDonnell Ranges then up to Mt Isa, Winton and back down via central QLD, NSW.

We hopefully will have no vehicle issues - I'm having everything checked over before we go.

Well once I get mine converted to Gas, I will have a 134 Long Range tank up for grabs hehe - that would give you a bit more distance
