I think the biggest is 235/70 with no mods.

245/75 is the common up size (which I have). You need to trim the rear guard and adjust steering stops.

235/70 is the stock size. (29").
225/75 is fractionally bigger (29.3").

I've never looked into 245's as I need the width clearance for chains. A mate had 245/75R16's on his bighorn.
I have 215/85R16's (30.3") coming. I like being different.

Also remember a lift does not create clearance.

Depends what you call "bigger" too. Width or height...but I digress.

I have 245/75 bighorns and have chains. I did a trial fit and seemed fine. Where do you think the issue is here?

I like your idea of higher tyres. TDI ratios suffer a bit tho.

I'm concerned about rear tyre clearance on full compression and losing steering lock.
I have a lot of wheel sets and at the moment a pair of 255/65R16's is on the back (Michelin XPC's trying to wear them out and it's just not happening).
These would be a bit smaller in width than 245's with chains and on the front they rub the radius arms where 225/75's and 235/70's with chains don't.
In the rear they get very close on the outer and inner corners at full articulation.

I intend to run the 215/85's as snow/mud tyres. They should be here next week. I'm sticking to 225/75 A/T's for normal usage. I agonised over 235/85 a lot and decided that if conditions get really bad (snow/ice) I needed to be able to fit chains over all my tyres.

I'm okay for torque to spin them.
