D1 big lifts, who's actually done one?

After having my 2-inch lift in for a short while now, I was under the car the other day looking at what has been happening offroad. Nothing dramatic, but here's my run down and what I'm wondering about the bigger lifts.

Slight front shaft rubbing on the front sway bar. I do have sway bar spacers, but havent fitted them yet, or I could just pull it off completely.

The centre chassis member (which unbolts) is quite close to the front shaft, so I'm guessing that you'd have to notch it if you were doing a 3+inch spring lift?

Longer suspension arms and tailshaft extensions are a given, but if you've done it, what did you use?

The mad man inside me saw this D2 and I was like WHOA!!!

    mmmmm 37s :P

i have taken my front swaybar off and didnt notice a differance, however im still at stock height sorting out barwork first

as for notching the cross memer if a lift will make the tailshaft hit than wouldent it hit when flexing it up, perhaps a modded tailshaft with a double cardinal

what can be done with thefront end to get more flex as it dont flex very well and if lifting it that high you want to get it flexing first so you still have more downtravel than up

Boxer, I've got a 2" lift on my d1. King springs all round and OME shocks and have had zero problems with mechanical contacts. Have got quite reasonable articulation with the sway bars on. Last week end i took the rear one off and immediately noticed better articulation on the rear {great fun} and no change to the on road handling. Next week i'll look at taking off the front one. However, with the lift there's been one annoying problem of the rotoflex joint, separating every time it gets a bit of welly off road which will be fixed after the next time ( i have one more spare joint to use ). When this suspension craps itself we'll go to a bigger lift and start all over again.

    Cheers Rob

There's a Disco 1, I occasionally See around the Belgrave/Upwey Area, Vic that looks sweet, it has approx 5" lift. Sometimes it's parked in the Upwey High School Car park on certain evenings. Don't know who own's it though

    boxer,
personally ide stick to a 2-3'' spring lift and install a 2.5''body lift.
off the shelf parts are easily obtainable for this combo.
ide also ditch both front and rear sway bars.

    cheers phil
