    Dashboard woes

The plastic on the dash of my D1 is lifting and distorting. Can this be repaired? By who, an upholsterer? Me? Or should I just put heavy objects on it (ie spare skulls) to force it down?

This is a well known issue with D1s - there used to be a kit of colour coded plastic or metal that was screwed to the areas that lift holding it all back down. However, I don't think they are made anymore.

Other than that I am afraid you will have to live with it and buy a dash mat to try and cover it up.

Mine has got so bad that it has broken the insrument binacle, it has curled up 4-6". I thought maybe soften it with a heat gun then screw/glue it down. Alternatively get Panda's excess skulls to hold it down, killing two birds with one stone.

If you like a challenge & you have a non-SRS dash, a new one (modified type) will set you back just over $100 from any LR dealer.

I'm not particularly fond of that type of challenge, but less fond of the condition of my dash. Do you have any experience changing them. I hadn't even considered a new one, I'm quite amazed they're available. Thanks.

I recently did my P38A dash top. It's a pain but worth it. You'd be surprised what you can access with the lid off!

No experience sorry but they won't be available for long.

LR bought in hundreds of new type dashes because of the curling issue but not all became a problem in the warranty period so they have been left with a few.

The price has come down in order for them to shift them. I bought one myself for my RR (when I do a dash conversion).
