    D1 Passenger window AGAIN!!!

    Hello....

    yes its lous agony corner

Few months back my passenger window would make an awful crack when opening and window would drop on an angle!! when we took the trim off we had noticed that the wheel has broken on the bottom of the scissors.

We got another complete window winder and motor second hand in very good condition from bundalene from a D2 apparently they are Identical...all fitted all good

Tonight on the way home CRACK window dropping again....I can only assume that the same thing has happened without pulling the trim off and having a look!

Have I just been unlucky or is there something I should be looking at? other than the wheel that might be causing this problem..... last time it was changed nothing looked out of place and there was no debris in the channel which the wheel sits in.

Sounds the same, you only need to replace the regulator section not the motor. Have a search though as there are some information threads somewhere on here about a home fix to replace the broken wheel.

    It's a common enough problem, my D1 did 2 and my D2 did 1.

I was told you cant replace the wheel...

And yes I know we did have to replace the motor but it all came as one. so wasn't worth stripping down to put on the other one when both motors were working fine

Yeah its normaly the wheels that break, there are 2 fixes i've seen either replacing the broken wheel with a nylon block or a runner wheel from a drawer. There is some info here http://www.aulro.com/afvb/good-oil/5...regulator.html
Had to replace the regulator on mine as the arms were warped
You can buy the regulator assembly on its own, i got one from tr spares just after i got my Disco.

My D1 did this last year. Both sides went within 3 weeks of each other after almost 15 years. What are the chances of that???

I got 2 new winder mechanisms, and I've fitted 2 rubber door stops at the bottom of the glass, so that when you put the window all the way down, it;'s not the mechanism that stops the glass but the 2 rubber door stops.

The glass goes all the way down still. It just stops about 2 or 3 mm earlier, you can hardly notice.

I am hoping that this will take away some of the strain on the arms, because I think that's what buggers the mechanism.

    Hi Lou,
yes it is a common problem with Disco 1and 2 windows. There is a thread on here somewhere from about 2 years back, it details how to fix the problem for about $4 or $5.

It involves by buying a nylon sliding door wheel from Bunnings then grind the old wheel post off, drilling a hole and attaching the new wheel. Then you have to open the channel wide enough for the wheel to roll through as the new wheel is slightly wider the the old one.

    Hope this helps

I don't think the roller idea will work on the front windows. It works on the rear window OK. The design is different for the lift mecahinisms.
    .
The sliding block idea ( cut up bits of nylon chopping board ) should work though. I believe the later ones did have sliding blocks as OEM gear anyway.
