Remove the whole airbox up to the MAF.

Attach the tube to the MAF, and then the pod filter to the other end of the tube.

Might be worth a try as that's how my D1 V8 was setup and it never backfired.

Measure the diameter of the pipe needed to fit into the MAF.

I think it is either 2.5 or 3 inch, get that size pipe and pod to fit over it.

    Preventing backfires on gas

I have been told the best way to prevent the backfiring is to ensure your ignition system is on top condition. I fitted 9mm HD silicon leads and new plugs when my D1 was converted to lpg last december. Apparently lpg requires a higher spark energy to work best.

My system is all standard D1 and have only ever backfired once, and that was my fault - too much right foot when the gas was running out. In the months after I had the conversion I replaced the leads, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor button and coil, but mainly to just make sure that it was all A1. Have had her on dual fuel now for just over 3 years without backfiring problems. I wanted to go injected from the start but they wouldn't do it without O2 sensors. When I was shopping around for my conversion I found a few guys who wouldn't do them because of so called backfiring problems. My brother had 2 dual fuel D1's and my old man had his D1 converted too, and none of these cars had ever had any backfiring issues.
