Thread: Alpine window speakers??????????

I managed to get these into the pillars of my Disco. They are 6 inch diameter and have a half inch spacer behind them.
Combined with a decent amp and a sub...the sound is rather good. I have the same size speakers in the front doors too.

I can see your thinking about putting them in the Alpine lights though. I would at least try to angle them forward to get some benefit from them.

    6x9 rear pillars are ok.

I have got my 6x9 mount on the rear pillars with no issues and can oly recommend them to fit there. My Alpine windows dont leak and want it to stay that way, silicone if you use the incorrect one will rust out the windows.
In a rush now but I can put photos up tonight if you want.
    Cheers

Back pillars are not really an option for us . We have 5 kids and use all 7 seats. A 6x9 in the back pillars will interfere with the opening of the rear fold out seats. Interested to see your photos though.

Me too except 3 kids but do carry 7 regularly doing school (can also change school for Pub) runs etc, I only have it LOUD when I am by myself then if needed use fronts as required. My amp is a 2 way with the channels split between front and rears not left and right. To stop metal interference from the rear pillars I glued some 9 mm ply to the back of the magnet which seemed to help as it was distorting a bit prior. Photos when home later.

My seats dont interfer with the speakers. My car is a 91 model and am guessing the rear seats are the same?

Me too, some photos of how you mounted the 6x9's in the rear pillars would be nice. I've just replaced the head unit with a nice Alpine and need to do something about the woeful speakers........

i fail to see how it will interfere with the seats I wouldn't of thought a 6x9 would come down that far.....

they would lay almost flat against the panel the seats only fold out forwards..I'm confused can anyone do a picture to show me how they would interfere?

Yes I know what you mean about hitting the seats but it was a sacrifice, my music which I enjoy or having a single dent in the speaker covers. Forgot about it and really not noticeable unless you get the right angle (see pics) as I don't look at them like I look at my wife (shes beautiful and not many dents!).
Its up to you but mounting the speakers in the Alpine windows would be good, I would only do if I could take the window out and have it plated properly so there is no sign of the Alpine windows at all. This means a roof respray then it would work well I think. A lot of work for a simple thing, your call as I couldn't be bothered. If you take the mesh off the speakers then your seat may not hit it but leave it open to speaker core damage.
Another thing that has crossed my mind is to cut the whole rear off my car and buying a five door then extending the chassis so its about a meter longer and grafting my 3 door body to the back of the 5 door wagon, then again why start another project that I will never finish.

When you open the seats the back top corner hits the mesh and pushes it in about 5mm. This is due to angle of the rear pillar and that the rear seats are close to the rear of the car. I had forgotten until I looked closely at it today.
You could lift the seat bar off the ground by 10mm approx to stop the top of the seat hitting the speaker but they may be dangerous when involved in a jolt or accident.

so when you open the seats up does the back of the seat then move up and no longer sit flush with the plastic shroud around it?
